==Understand==
Argentina is the second-largest country in South America. Brazil may be the largest, but Argentina is both the highest and lowest. At 6,960 m Cerro Aconcagua is South America's tallest mountain, while Salinas Chicas, on the Valdes Peninsula (''Peninsula Valdes''), at 40 m below sea level, is the lowest point on the continent.
At the southern tip of Argentina there are several routes between the South Atlantic and the South Pacific Oceans including the Strait of Magellan, Beagle Channel, and Drake Passage as an alternative sailing around Cape Horn in the open ocean between South America and Antarctica.
; '''Climate''' : mostly temperate; arid in southeast; subantarctic in southwest
; '''Terrain''' : rich plains of the Pampas in northern half, flat to rolling plateau of Patagonia in south, rugged Andes along western border
; '''History''' : Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983 after the abortive attempt to wrest the Falkland Islands (''Islas Malvinas'') from United Kingdom sovereignity - numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation. Economically, however, Argentina has been less than stable of late and stringent measures are being undertaken to prevent economic collapse.

===By plane===
If you plan on visiting Buenos Aires you will fly into Ezeiza Airport (EZE); if you're traveling to another location in Argentina you'll have to travel from Ezeiza to the Aeroparque airport also known as Jorge Newbery (AEP). Problem is that these airports are located on opposite parts of the city, making transportation from one to the other difficult and expensive.
If visiting another city there are a number of airports located throught the country. Many find it far easier to travel to a neighboring country and then take a short distance hop to the smaller airport. Santiago de Chile has a very nice airport that services most of the major internal airports in Argentina and South America.

===By train===
Travelling by train is an excellent option for alternative tourism in Argentina, one way to see the best of the country and for those who love trains, its a "must".
===By bus===
Argentina boasts an oustanding short- and long-distance bus network. The hub of this network is definitely Buenos Aires' Terminal de Omnibus - Retiro. It has 2,000 bus arrivals and departures every day, and multiple companies serve most destinations.
The buses generally offer high quality service, and for distances longer than 200km, it is common to have food served on board. There is generally a good amount of legroom, and many buses have camas / beds making them a lot like traveling business class on a plane.
Fares are quite reasonable, especially if you think in terms of dollars/euros/pounds.
A great deal more information on buses, bus companies, and schedules, is available at: http://www.tebasa.com.ar/ .

Definitely check out Argentine '''asado''', sometimes also called '''parrillada''', or barbecue. There is no way around it - foodwise Argentina is virtually synonymous with beef. And the beef is some of the best in the world. Having a '''parrillada''' dinner is one of the best ways to experience it, preferably with a bottle of wine from Mendoza.
Given that a large portion of Argentines are of Italian descent, '''Italian''' fare is very widespread and of high quality. Take note that a convention observed in Argentina is to treat the pasta and sauce as separate items. More than one traveller has found what they thought was cheap pasta only to find that they were not getting any sauce. You will see the pastas for one price and then the "salsas" or sauces for an additional charge.
'''Japanese''' cuisine, such as Sushi, has become popular in Buenos Aires (city)#Eat|Buenos Aires as a result of the expensive tastes of the former UCR government staff.
